R. Grayson worked as an English literary consultant with Spanish translator Sarah Turner to refine raw English translations and excerpts of Joaquina García-Balmaseda’s commentary on the state of Women’s Education and Coquetry in her native country of Spain. García-Balmaseda, a Spanish contemporary of Mary Wollstonecraft and Jane Austen, wrote in Early Modern academic Spanish, which required etymological finesse and the use of antiquated 18th-century English to preserve the essence of her voice and tone without compromising her message or intent. The project required 646 edits, a selection of which are showcased below.
